As the communities leading nonprofit provider of employment training and job placement services, Goodwill® knows that it takes a comprehensive approach to help people find and keep good jobs. “The idea of Goodwill is to help people overcome barriers to independence,” says Dan Kurtenbach, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley. “Certainly career growth, whether it’s within Goodwill or outside of Goodwill, is a good thing. So if someone comes here and gets the skills and training they need, then they can go and get a much better job.”
Goodwill collects donated clothing and household goods, and then sells these items in their Retail Store & Donation Centers throughout Frederick and Carroll Counties. “When you donate and shop at Goodwill, you make an economic investment in your community,” says Kurtenbach. “92 cents of every dollar generated through the sale of donated goods funds job training programs to help workers become productive, taxpaying citizens.”
In 2011 Goodwill served over 2,169 people while employing over 500 individuals throughout the year in their Retail Stores and Work Force Services Departments.
“So without what we do in the retail division, we would serve less people,” Kurtnebach said. “We are very fortunate that the retail stores continue to do well, so that we’re able to continue our mission even through tough economic times.”
Goodwill Industries of Monocacy Valley which covers both Frederick and Carroll County currently has seven Retail Stores & Donation Centers, two Work Force Service Centers, an Attended Donation Center in Westminster and a fully functional Frederick Warehouse and Distribution Center. The organization currently has over 240 employees and plans for future development in the coming months with the addition of a Carroll County Warehouse & Distribution Center, a newly remodeled Retail Store and Donation Center in Westminster and the addition of an eighth Retail Store and Donation Center in Frederick.
Due to the growth of the organization and their commitment to their mission, Goodwill is currently hiring both part time and full time employees in both Frederick and Carroll County and will be hosing job fairs throughout the month of August.
